Laptop Stands: Check These 4 Things Before You Buy
A laptop stand raises a laptop off the desk so the screen sits higher. It only works if it holds your laptop's size and weight, it lifts the screen to a height that suits you, and it leaves enough desk in front for a keyboard and mouse. Use these checks before choosing one. This guide is a planning aid, not a compatibility guarantee.

1. Laptop size
Check your laptop's screen size and measure its base from front to back. The folding aluminium stand we checked says "Support Laptops up to 15.6 inch" in its images. We found no laptop size on the YYLM stand's listing, so compare its arms with your laptop's base. IKEA's DUBBLA laptop stand is 60 cm wide and 40 cm deep.
2. Screen height
Sit as you work and measure from the desk to your eyes. The folding aluminium stand's images give a lowest height of 2.15 inches and a highest of 6 inches (about 5.5 to 15 cm). The YYLM stand's images, for its double-layer N8 model, show "25MM Lowest" and "310MM Highest"; its N3 options are a different model. DUBBLA goes from 18 to 41 cm high.
3. Desk depth
Measure the desk from the wall to the front edge. If the screen goes up towards eye level, you will probably want a separate keyboard and mouse in front of the stand, so check there is room for them. One reviewer of IKEA's VATTENKAR laptop/monitor stand (52 x 26 cm, 14 cm high) wrote: "i can put my keyboard under my monitor so i can use my desks for other things without moving everything."
4. Grip and load
Check for non-slip pads where the laptop rests and under the base, and that the stand is rated for your laptop. IKEA lists "Max. load: 10 kg." for DUBBLA. The folding aluminium stand shows "40KG" on its stability image; the YYLM stand's images show a "SILICONE ANTI-SKID STRIP" and a figure printed as "10GK" over a stack of laptops, so ask the seller to confirm its load.
Before you order
Keep your laptop's screen size and base depth, the height you want the screen at and your desk depth next to the stand's supported sizes, height range and footprint. If you raise the screen a lot, plan for a separate keyboard and mouse. If a figure is missing, ask the seller.
