Under-Bed Storage: Measure These 4 Things Before You Buy
The space under a bed looks generous until you measure it. Side rails, slats, centre legs and the floor itself all limit what fits, and a box that fits underneath may still be awkward to pull out. Use these checks to compare boxes, bags and drawers, or to decide that another spot would work better. This guide is a planning aid, not a compatibility guarantee.

1. Lowest clearance
Measure from the floor to the lowest part of the frame along the path the storage will take: side rails, cross bars and slats. Compare it with the product's full height, including wheels, handles and a lid. Check whether the listed height includes the wheels; if it is not clear, ask the seller. Leave a little room so the lid and contents do not scrape the frame.
2. Usable depth
Measure how far you can push storage in before it meets a centre leg, a support bar or storage from the other side. Check which dimension the listing calls width and which it calls depth; a box turned the other way may fit better. Measure the space between the legs along each side too, so you know how many units fit.
3. Pull-out room
You need room beside the bed to pull the storage out fully and lift the lid or open the zip. Check nearby furniture, radiators, doors and walkways. Wheels that do not swivel roll in a straight line, so the box may need a straight path out. If space is tight, a narrower unit may be easier to use than one large box.
4. Floor type
Check whether the floor is carpet, a rug or a hard surface, and look for thresholds or uneven boards. Small wheels can struggle on deep carpet, and a rug edge can catch a low box. Without wheels, a heavy box can be hard to move and may mark the floor. Consider the weight of what you will store and keep within any stated limits.
Before you order
Keep your clearance, depth and pull-out measurements next to the product's full dimensions with wheels, its inside dimensions and any load limit. A lid, cover or bag helps with dust, but it needs room to open. If the height including wheels is not published, ask the seller rather than guessing.
